The Closing Loops Project

Purpose
ESEBA is part of a grant-supported initiative under Closing Loops, funded by the EU, aiming to demonstrate how textile waste can be locally recycled into valuable new products within a circular value chain.

Background
The design and lifestyle industry is facing increasing demands for sustainability and resource efficiency. This project focuses on reducing textile waste and establishing closed-loop solutions, where discarded materials are collected, sorted, and upcycled into new products – all within the same sector.

Solution
Using ESEBA’s proprietary Lixotechnology – capable of upcycling textile waste with a minimum of 70% natural fibers – we collaborate with stakeholders across the value chain:

  • Copenhagen Cartel: Provides deadstock and returned products, which are upcycled into new accessories (bags and wallets) – closing the loop within their own brand.

  • Geismars Væverier: Supplies textile scraps that are transformed into Lixo material, which Tom Rossauuses as a sustainable alternative to PVC-coated Japanese paper in their lamp designs.

  • Folkekirkens Nødhjælp (DanChurchAid): Donates post-consumer textile waste, which Bakano Designupcycles into bags and wallets as a sustainable leather alternative.

Impact
This project showcases how waste from both companies and civil society can gain new life through local upcycling and design-driven innovation. It is a tangible contribution to the green transition – and proof that collaboration creates the strongest solutions.

Funding
The project is supported by the EUand Closing Loops, as part of a broader effort to advance the circular economy in Denmark and across Europe.
